About Doug Daller

Doug plays anything on a piano or plays on anything with a keyboard from a Hammond B3 in a blues band, a pipe organ in a cathedral, a synthesizer in a rock band to a computer. Born in Detroit, raised on Motown, the '60's and Woodstock as well as Mozart, Bach, Beethoven and Chopin, educated at University of Michigan, Doug believes enjoying music is not primarily playing the right notes, but playing music with feeling. Doug remembers Motown first hand: "As a teenager I was fortunate to be in the 'Snakepit' at Hitsville, the famous recording studio when the Motown hits were being recorded. I used to deliver newspapers to Marvin Gaye and one of the Four Tops, and Aretha's father's gospel church where she began was right down the street from my neighborhood. I was moved by the music scene in Detroit from just about infancy. Now creating shows finding so much depth and power and passion in the music is incredibly satisfying.

This Saturday we'll have generations of A Fistful of Dallers' music. The first KRUU live feed from Café Paradiso, 8-10pm, (see James' recent post), will feature Adrien Daller singing accompanied by her brother Dain Daller on synthesized tracks, and by me, Doug Daller on piano.

Then my KRUU show, A Fistful of Daller's, 10-12pm, will feature the history of rock 'n' roll in the Daller family. My oldest brother, Bill Daller, will bring in his collection of the first 45 records in the Daller household. This, and AM radio in Detroit, is how my brothers and I got introduced to rock 'n' roll when it first began in the early 1950's.

We'll play these records from start to finish and they'll show the real, first hand history of rock 'n' roll through the ears of one family. This collection will include the first Elvis releases from Sun Records, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, the Coasters, even The Teddy Bears, The Ventures, and maybe Pat Boone and Dean Martin, and on to Motown.

Wow! These are the actual records from the birth of rock 'n' roll. Besides being an unbelievably precious collection of historical authenticity, the music is incredibly rockin'.
